After Your Interview – Leave a good impression!
By JG Côté
Once your interview is over you should always stand-up, shake everyone’s hand, and thank them for their time. Make sure you express your appreciation for having the opportunity to be interviewed and that you look forward to hearing from them in the near future. Remember, this is the last impression you’ll leave on the job interviewers and it will be their last memory of you as well. Therefore, it is absolutely important that you make this last impression count!
If your interview does not go as well as you thought it should have, or you have changed your mind about wanting the job, be sure to remain calm. Problems do sometimes happen during a job interview. Therefore you should be prepared for it enough that you don’t sabotage your reputation should things go astray.
NEVER, I repeat NEVER get upset or do anything that may leave a bad impression. My experience is that people talk, Companies talk, and this small world is even smaller than we think. If you are a professional in a particular field of work (for example, agriculture, engineering, law, etc), many of the professionals know each other and are in regular contact with one another. The absolute worst thing you can do is burn a bridge somewhere else because you said or did something foolish during or after an interview.
Ensure that no matter what happens in your job interview, you leave respectfully, positively and with your head up high. That is always a great recipe for success.
