Human Resource Planning Is Key
Help Wanted - Apply Within ....
That is one way to deal with your human resource needs, just wait until a position is open and then hope the perfect person will come along to fill it. It's an approach that might have made sense 20 years ago. But not any more.
Consider these facts:
- New technologies are transforming the way we do business, calling for employees with new, more advanced skills.
- As much of the world moves towards a service based, knowledge-intensive economy, qualified employees are the key to competitive success.
- Almost half of the new jobs created over the next 10 years will require employees with more than 16 years of education and training.
- With fewer young people entering the workforce, employers will need to use non-traditional sources of new skills by hiring and training more visible minorities, older workers and persons with disabilities.
- Already up to half of North American firms have trouble finding workers with the right skills to fill vacant jobs.
- Many industry competitors in the world economy have improved productivity through higher technology, product innovation and enhanced training of their labour forces. If competitive businesses are to hold their own in an era of global competition, they must harness technology by developing the skills and knowledge of the people who direct, operate and maintain it.
As the demand for qualified workers continues to grow, winning in business means winning the human race. To win with people you have to look ahead, building the team of skilled, motivated employees you need not just today but several years into the future. That is what Human Resource Planning or HRP is all about.
