Job Search Roadblocks
Often a job seeker will equate direct experience with qualifications for a job. They are unaware that employers also consider transferable skills and an ability to learn as important qualifications.
A job seeker may believe that employers will not consider them desirable employees because of their age. However attitude and capabilities can override age as the deciding factors in employment decisions.
Some job seekers will "take whatever they can get", in other words allow the employer to decide what position they are best suited for. An information interview that informs the job seeker of the opportunities available will provide a concrete base to make decisions about which types of jobs they would enjoy. Job seekers with a sense of direction and enthusiasm about their work are more desirable than those who will take anything.
Sometimes a job seeker will view interviews as a test and as a result, the interiview becomes a very stressful situation. They should realize that the interview is actually an exchange of information between the job seeker and the employer after which both parties make decisions about the job seeker suitability for the job.
